Studying triple BTEC at Blackpool Sixth Form has been the two most inspirational and life changing years of my life, my knowledge about the world of art and its diversity has changed dramatically as I have learnt that in art anything and everything is possible.
After studying new skills in my first year I decided to take up the specialism mixed media, which is not really a specialist field like painting or sculpture but a bit of everything. Whether it be painting, stitching, wire sculpture or manipulation of materials chances are it will have been in my work at some point.
One of the artists that has inspired my work more than any other would be John Dahlsen, an environmental artist from Australia that takes litter from his the local beach, Byron Bay, and uses it in his work and gives them new life. He has inspired me to look at how life as we know it is being drastically changed by our actions.
When I looked more into beach litter I discovered that some animals can eat the litter and become very ill or even die, this inspired me to put quotes about recycling from the bags inside my birds like they have eaten them. Similarly  in my sea scape pieces I have used plastic bags within the work to show how litter is becoming part of our oceans.
